DJ Poolboi Turns Loneliness Into A Street-Lit Parisian Adventure In New Video.
Author: Katie Manning
Born and raised in Austin, Texas artist dj poolboi has crossed the pond and landed in the early hours of a Parisian night with the video for his new single ‘la nuit n’en finit plus’. Featuring French songstress Clio, and directed by Julie Reynaud, the dream pop track is in fact a cover of a 1963 French hit by Petula Clark. And will now feature on dj poolboi’s upcoming LP, Stay Just A Little While Longer.
Taking inspiration from all forms of music, poolboi’s new reimagination of this classic song lends itself beautifully to the resurgence of lo-fi indie music. Cinematic right from the offset with its romantic piano melody, the song springs into life by seamlessly combining dreamy synths and contemporary pop beats, with the silky vocals and rolling melody.
And all this is spectacularly translated to film as vocalist, Clio parades around the lamp-lit empty streets of Paris, exuding care-free youthfulness. Director Julie Reynaud describes: "When minutes seems to be hours in an endless night, what about going out for a nocturnal walk in the city of light celebrating being alive? I think this what is about this music video: turning loneliness from burden to blessing”.
While the raw footage plays, we are invited intimately into this night of joy. We watch as she dances with infectious, unburned energy, and are reminded of the simple joys in life. And the happiness that can be found in enjoying time reconnecting with yourself. As we near the end of the chill track and see the sunrise appear, poolboi’s work perfectly captures the nostalgia of freedom. This immersive experience will be inspiration to many watching to once again let go and enjoy life.
