Lapels - All Things Down to You
A giddy, infectious bit of indie rock meets glam makes Lapels’ “All Things Down to You” an addictive soulful piece of pop. Their vocals have a tremendous energy behind them. By employing a communal presence to it, a little bit of 90s Britpop adorns the gentle elegance. So much confidence pours out of the entirety of the track. Nothing is held back for they storm through with a wide-eyed curiosity. Urgency is of the utmost importance for they make sure to double, then triple down on the tempos to ensure that the whole thing speeds by in a blur.
The acoustic guitar opens things in a bright and light way. Not long until the vocals come on in, for they seemingly soar up into the sky. Everything here works wonders, from the call and response nature of the vocals which feel really underutilized in music lately. A complete and utter joy, this is a song that needs to be absolutely blasted. Subtle elements matter here too for the bass work has a delicacy to it, proving to be a wonderfully expressive little touch. Drums too add to the freewheeling communal presence of the entire piece. With that fantastic breakdown right in the center of the song they help to keep things relatively unexpected at all times. For the final stretch the let their hair out and let their freak flag truly fly.
Lapels prove to have impeccable chops on the stunningly speeding sound of “All Things Down to You”.
